New for 2010 Online learning option in the IDC

For candidates who are already certified as PADI Divemaster prior to arriving on Utila for your IDC there have been changes to the curriculum, that from January 2010, now allow you to;

1)    Study and pre-assess your dive theory online.

2)    Study 9 of the course presentations online which can be used to save time from the course and start 3 days later than our ‘Live delivery’ IDC with the start date on the Saturday evening at 5pm.  The course will then end one week later on the Sunday (with EFR Instructor course) and then a day’s fun diving on Monday prior to the IE on the Tuesday/Wednesday, allowing you to leave on the Thursday am flights.  This takes just 13 days for the complete Instructor course, EFR Instructor and 2 day PADI Exams, and even less if you arrive on Utila already certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor.

There is an additional charge for this each of these options, that deliver convenience and value enhancement to the IDC, and this is paid to PADI.  Please contact us for more information to register for this option and read more below on our Instructor course.

Our PADI IDC with the Caribbean and Central Americas Premier Career Development Centre

The PADI Instructor Development Course (PADI IDC> is comprised of 2 components, These 2 components can be taken either separately or together in one course.

The Assistant Instructor portion is the 1st component of the PADI Instructor Development Course and builds upon Divemaster training.  The Assistant Instructor course is a 5 day program (2 days with online option) that introduces trains you as an instructional assistant, in academic teaching and in confined & open water training.  As an Assistant Instructor you improve your employability within the dive industry and earnings potential.  This program credits towards the PADI Instructor Development Course and allows you to gain experience as an instructional assistant before the IDC.   The Assistant Instructor course can be conducted as part of the PADI IDC or as a stand-alone program.

The 2nd portion of the IDC is the OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor) program. and takes 6 days  (3days with online option). The OWSI develops candidate’s abilities to prepare academic, confined water and open water teaching presentations. As an Instructor candidate you’ll also learn about business principles, teaching children, risk management and other important topics relevant for the dive professional.  At Utila Dive Centre we also cover areas regarding working in different worldwide environments, resort management and look at greater career opportunities in diving including ‘diver safety’ and ‘technical diving’, resume preparation and what gives you the best chance of success as a professional in today’s dive industry.  Practical workshops during the IDC will develop your ability to retail dive equipment and counsel divers into continuing education programs.

Our pass rate is 100% at the PADI Instructor Examinations however we measure our success by how successful our Instructor candidates are after their training with us, the fact that many of our past IDC candidates are now working throughout Honduras, Central America and the rest of the world, in prominent positions, as resort management and many are also Course Directors themselves is the real benchmark!  In fact you'll find whilst searching for the IDC facility to take your training, or for scuba diving internships, that our philosophies and approach to training Instructors are often imitated, but we can guarantee they are never surpassed!

Unlike most PADI IDC facilities we schedule our IDC program over a period of 11 days, from 8am to 5pm, in order to make the course much more relaxed and to give us more time to focus on individual counseling and development and our staff will always be in the facility from 7am to 7pm for individual coaching.  Our IDC’s are scheduled to end 2 days before local PADI IE’s commence, allowing time if necessary for our in-house Course Director to remediate with individual candidates.

jules class.jpgAt the Utila Dive Centre we conduct our IDC’s in modern air-conditioned classrooms using the latest PowerPoint multi media presentations and we have an on site training pool for more time in the water on individual skill development.  Our Open Water training sessions will be conducted on Utila’s reefs to prepare you for when you come to teach in this similar kind of environment.  At the end of your Instructor Development Course you’ll attend a 2 day Instructor Examination which will then qualify you to teach as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, and if you really want to get a head start to your dive career then read about our Premium Pro Plus program.
