IANTD Technical Diver
IANTD Technical Diver

The name of this course says it all as this is the first course of many technical diving courses. During this level of training you will be diving in the 100 to 170 ft range using air, various nitrox mixtures, and decompression mixes up to 100% Oxygen.

In the classroom you will further your knowledge of decompression theory and theories of Nitrox and Oxygen use.  This program will train you to progress from a competent recreational diver into a fully self sufficient technical diver. All skills and dive planning at this level are taught using double tanks, harnesses, back plates, stage bottles, and a variety of different gases during the dives and for advanced dive planning a number of different decompression software programs will be used as well as tables.

This is where the deeper oceans and waterholes of the world safely become within reach and adventure and discovery of Utila’s north side walls and outer sea banks beckons.  In order to enroll on the course you need to be a minimum of 18 years of age with a nitrox diver certification and a ‘Deep Air’ certification from a recognized training agency or proof of experience to the same level (additional written requirements exist as well).  This course is outlined as a three day program with around 6 hours of classroom, dive briefing and open water training consists of 4 dives to a maximum depth of 185 feet/55 meters. The breathing gasses can be nitrox or air using decompression mixes up to 100% O2 carried in a stage bottle while practicing various decompression techniques utilizing the use of computer generated decompression profiles for dive planning.

During this course the student will be diving in double tanks and technical dive gear.  The maximum course size is 4 students per instructor and after completion and certification of this course, divers will be issued a certification card as well as being qualified to plan and safely execute dives to the limit of training while using different equipment configurations, air, and nitrox mixes up to 100% Oxygen.  This course is 4 days in duration.
